The Reuven Ramaty High Energy Solar Spectroscopic Imager observation of the 1809 keV Line from Galactic

چکیده
Observations of the central radian of the Galaxy by the Reuven Ramaty High Energy Solar Spectroscopy Imager (RHESSI) have yielded a high-resolution measurement of the 1809 keV line from 26 Al, detected at 11σ significance in nine months of data. The RHESSI result for the width of the cosmic line is (2.03 +0.78 −1.21) keV FWHM. The best fit line width of 5.4 keV FWHM reported by Naya et al. (1996) using the Gamma-Ray Imaging Spectrometer (GRIS) balloon instrument is rejected with high confidence.

Gamma-ray Line Observations with Rhessi
The Reuven Ramaty High Energy Solar Spectroscopic Imager (RHESSI) has been observing gammaray lines from the Sun and the Galaxy since its launch in February 2002. Here I summarize the status of RHESSI observations of solar lines (nuclear de-excitation, neutron capture, and positron annihilation), the lines of Al and Fe from the inner Galaxy, and the search for positron annihilation in novae.

Fivian et al. (Reports, 24 October 2008, p. 560) analyzed data from the Reuven Ramaty High-Energy Solar Spectroscopic Imager satellite and reported that the Sun is more oblate than previous measurements have suggested. We argue that their threshold-based analysis yields a biased measure of the solar limb shape geometry.
متن کاملDouble Coronal Hard and Soft X-ray Source Observed by Rhessi : Evidence for Magnetic Reconnection and Particle Acceleration in Solar Flares
We present data analysis and interpretation of an M1.4 class flare observed with the Reuven Ramaty High Energy Solar Spectroscopic Imager (RHESSI ) on 2002 April 30. This event, with its footpoints occulted by the solar limb, exhibits a rarely observed, but theoretically expected, double-source structure in the corona. The two coronal sources, observed over the 6Y30 keVrange, appear at differen...
متن کاملLow Energy Cosmic Ray Interactions in Astrophysics
Gamma ray emission lines resulting from accelerated particle bombardment of ambient gas can serve as an important spectroscopic tool for abundance determinations. The method is illustrated by considering the gamma ray line emission observed from solar flares. The observation of similar gamma ray lines from Orion suggests the existence of large fluxes of low energy Galactic cosmic rays. The role...
متن کاملThe correlation between soft and hard X-rays component in flares: from the Sun to the stars
Aims. In this work we study the correlation between the soft (1.6–12.4 keV, mostly thermal) and the hard (20–40 and 60–80 keV, mostly non-thermal) X-ray emission in solar flares up to the most energetic events, spanning about 4 orders of magnitude in peak flux, establishing a general scaling law and extending it to the most intense stellar flaring events observed to date. Methods. We used the d...
